Vincent Hamel

  • Biography

    Vincent Hamel graduated summa cum laude from the Film Scoring program at Berklee College of Music in 2010. Now based in Montreal, he has since composed the music for Canadian TV series such as Route 66 (Historia), Défier la Magie (Artv – CBC) and 1,2,3… Géant (Télé-Québec). He has composed the score for many documentaries including It’s Alright Michel (NFB/ONF), The Sin City of the North, Claude & Claudette, Femmes aux combats (Yayafilm), Luc Langevin: Créateur d’illusions and Beyond Magic (Téléfiction Productions), which was nominated at the 2014 Gémeaux Awards for Best Original Score in a Documentary. He also wrote the music for the CBC report Exile Without End: Palestinians in Lebanon, winner of the prestigious Prix Italia. In 2008, his original composition "UFO" was featured on the soundtrack of Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (Sony Pictures).

     

    Throughout his three years at Berklee, he studied under some of the biggest names in the industry, including Dan Carlin (The Bodyguard, Sister Act, Last of the Mohicans), Eric Reasoner (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Die Hard), Sheldon Mirowitz and Jon Aldrich. He has also attended master classes with Bill Ross (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Bruce Broughton (Silverado), Georges S. Clinton (Austin Powers) and Jorge Callandrelli (The Color Purple). Vincent completed his studies with an internship at Paramount Pictures as composer and sound-effects engineer.

    Vincent is a classically trained singer and pianist and he holds a BA in composition from the University of Montréal. Many of his arrangements have been performed by choirs and orchestras across Canada and abroad. His keen interest in a wide range of musical styles makes him an extraordinarily versatile composer.
